Oggi mi sento anche io di spendere "due parole" su questo LLL
Ebbene si, come tanti altri vecchi affezionati, quando ho saputo il titolo del disco ho rabbrividito per la paura di cosa ci potesse attendere, mi inquietava l’idea che un tema così comune li avrebbe inevitabilmente trascinati in un abisso di banalità e luoghi comuni.
Allora mi sono messa a scervellarmi sulle varie accezioni del termine “loud” non volendo arrendermi all’idea di questo “forti come l’amore”, e mi dicevo, magari è inteso nel senso di “pressante”, “insistente”... Oggi, dopo aver passato una settimana ad ascoltarlo, riascoltarlo, riascoltarlo ancora da capo ormai credo davvero centinaia di volte, apprezzo il titolo nella sua accezione di “forti come l’amore”, perché capisco l’estremizzazione che sono riusciti a fare di un termine così comune.
Mi aspettavo un disco ottimista, luminoso, “respirabile”, un proseguo di battle for the sun, in cui la ricerca della felicità dopotutto non era stata soddisfatta, pensavo che questo Loud Like Love fosse proprio il raggiungimento della meta. E invece mi sono trovata spiazzata da un disco malinconico, cupo e a tratti persino claustrofobico (inutile dire che la sorpresa è stata più che gradita).
L’apertura io la trovo vagamente in contrasto col resto del disco, in questo senso lo associo tanto a battle for the sun: I will battle for the sun.... In a bag you will be before the day is over per me è semanticamente sul piano di We are loud like love... Then I run away to wonderland and disappear without a trace. Aspettative deluse. Tentativi di raggiungere qualcosa, realizzazione dell’impossibilità di farlo e resa finale.
Per quanto riguarda i singoli brani, tra i due singoli credo di preferire Loud Like Love, anche se TMF, escluso il piano iniziale che trovo davvero un po’ scontato (diciamo che secondo me si riprende alla seconda strofa), non mi dispiace.
Scene of the crime la metterei al terzo posto nella mia classifica personale, ha un bel ritmo, diversa dal solito... mi piace molto anche il testo.
Hold on to me non mi fa impazzire nella prima parte ma trovo il finale letteralmente geniale. Purtroppo essendo in Cina non ho avuto possibilità di trovare il disco originale qua perciò devo aspettare di rientrare in Italia per aprire la mia copia e vedere tutto l’art work ma per ciò che ho intravisto dalle immagine credo che ci sia un forte collegamento tra il delirio del finale di hold on to me e le immagini del disco.
Rob the bank è il perfetto singolo in stile Placebo. Lo trovo un pezzo davvero incisivo ed è credo quarta nella mia classifica personale, se la gioca con AMLP che segue e che trovo la ballata perfetta. Adoro l’inizio della seconda strofa.
Exit Wounds come ho già detto mi ha fatta innamorare di nuovo per la prima volta del Placebo. La amo follemente, è la canzone perfetta, posso ascoltarla 10 volte di seguito ed ogni volta ho la pelle d’oca. Ha un’atmosfera incredibile, ed esprime l’essenza di tutto ciò che amo dei Placebo.
Purify la trovo spettacolare. Mi piace l’uso che stanno facendo dell’elettronica, e adoro la frase remagnetise my moral compass, una delle mie preferfite di tutto il disco.
Begin the end è meravigliosa, a mio avviso batte Bosco (che dalle premesse pareva essere il capolavoro del disco). è dolce e sofferta, mi da i brividi. Bosco è meravigliosa e se avessero usato questo tipo di pianoforte in tmf forse sarebbe uscita una canzone nettamente migliore. Ma tra le due penso proprio di preferire Begin.
In generale sono completamente presa da questo disco. è esattamente come lo volevo.

Prima di tutto, spero di non aver sbagliato sezione detto ciò, questo topic è dedicato ai pareri che ognuno di voi formulerà sul nuovo album.
Io personalmente, lo dico senza troppi problemi, non ci scommettevo una lira su questo disco, ragion per cui mi sono lanciato su torrent e l'ho scaricato promettendomi che, nel caso mi fosse piaciuto, l'avrei acquistato.

AVVISO: di seguito è riportata la mia personalissima e modestissima recensione del disco, per chi volesse attenderne l'uscita ufficiale è pregato di tornare alla pagina precedente




1. LOUD LIKE LOVE
Il disco si apre con un arpeggio di chitarra effettata con una lieve distorsione e delay, ci guida all'immediata esplosione che rimanda palesemente all'artwork dell'intera opera, una miriade di colori e sensazioni regalate dai numerori effetti e sinth presenti in sottofondo; entra subito la voce di Brian come sempre in ottima forma, molto melodica e alta ormai (scordatevi definitivamente il suo timbro prettamente nasale, ormai ha imparato a cantare completamente di gola e diaframma). Il pezzo fila liscio senza troppi patemi anche se forse troppe volte lascia l'ascoltatore in sospeso, in attesa di un ritornello che arriva solo nel finale. In definitiva il pezzo è un piacevole pop-rock molto classico tipico dei Placebo post 2007, sicuramente se fosse durato un minuto in meno, eliminando magari l'ultimo verso, sarebbe stato ancora meglio. Col senno di poi, una volta ascoltata l'intera opera si comprende come questa canzone sia un vero e proprio apri pista, una dichiarazione di intenti su quello che accadrà nelle restanti 9 tracce.

2. SCENE OF THE CRIME
Il pezzo si apre con dei battiti di mani sintetizzati e batteria che accompagna solo sui piatti, veramente notevole l'interpretazione di Brian che letteralmente si porta con se uno alla volta tutti gli strumenti, prima la gran cassa della batteria, poi il basso ed infine la chitarra, il prezzo prende forma nel giro di un minuto e funziona veramente bene. Con l'ingresso da li a poco di un beat elettronico di sottofondo, del piano e di alcuni contro cori si intuisce che si sta probabilmente ascoltando la migliore canzone dei Placebo dall'arrivo di Steve Forrest dietro le pelli. Il finale anche in questo caso è un crescendo molto potente con la voce di Brian che ci guida in lontananza. Potenziale singolo.

3. TOO MANY FRIENDS
Eccoci a quello che è il primo singolo del disco e paradossalmente, il pezzo più debole dell'intera raccolta. Arpeggio di piano con voce di Brian ad aprire, un marchio di fabbrica ormai consolidato. Anche in questo caso gli strumenti entrano in sequenza: batteria, basso, ed infine chitarra. La melodia è sfacciatamente easy listening e priva di qualsiasi inventiva, allo stesso tempo però riesce nell'intento di rimanere in testa di chi l'ascolta.
L'obiettivo quindi viene raggiunto, però ci si dovrebbe dimenticare che si parla dei PLACEBO, ovvero di un gruppo il quale i primi singoli di ogni album erano pezzi non propriamente commerciali come Pure Morning, Taste In Men o The Bitter End, pezzi intrisi di stile che ugualmente riuscivano ad ottenere il consenso del grande pubblico. Too Many Friends sarà passata sicuramente molto per radio ma non rappresenta degnamente ne i Placebo, ne il disco in se.

4. HOLD ON TO ME
Inizio da pelle d'oca, sembra di ascoltare un gruppo post rock, qualcosa di vicino ai God Is An Astronaut, c'è sempre del lieve sinth di sottofondo, chitarra che arpeggia, batteria su di un 4/4 elementare, insomma un tappeto perfetto per far risaltare la splendida voce di Brian. Il pezzo parte come un'ottima ballata elegante fino ai 2 minuti, dove la voce sparisce e compare la chitarra solista di Brian che ci regala l'ennesimo assolino fotocopia già presente nel rif di Infra-Red, nella riedizione di I Know, ed in Come Undone.. una caduta di stile. L'assolo sfuma e prendono la scena gli archi di Fiona, il tutto si ricompatta nuovamente in un unico corpo: chitarra solista, archi e base iniziale, il tutto pervaso dal parlato di Brian che, un po' come ai tempi di Summer's Gone, ci accompagna fino alla fine.. ma i risultati purtroppo non sono memorabili come quelli del 1998.

5. ROB THE BANK
La quinta traccia di Loud Like Love si apre in maniera molte, con un basso cazzuto e deciso, la voce rabbiosa di Brian e la batteria che picchia fin dal primo momento. Parte il ritornello ed è delirio: finalmente un po' di distorsione degna dei primi lavori della band, mentre la seconda chitarra si prodiga in un mini solo acidissimo e dissonante. Roba che da queste parti non si vedeva forse dai tempi di Black Market Music, ottimo il bridge centrale che allo stesso tempo da respiro all'ascoltatore ma mantiene alta la tensione fino alla ripresa finale. Ottima, sarebbe stata un degno primo singolo.

6. A MILLION LITTLE PIECES
Inizio con piano, basso e batteria, il tutto molto effettato e ovattato dal delay, ben presto però sparisce il tutto per far spazio alla voce di Brian in quella che risulta essere una pop-ballad di piacevole ascolto e di elegante fattura. Il ritornello riprende la melodia iniziale con l'aggiunta di una chitarra acustica che completa perfettamente l'arrangiamento di questa canzone dal sapore lievemente coldplaydiano.

7. EXIT WOUNDS
Da questa traccia in poi, il disco inizia ad assumere delle tinte a me più gradite, cioè più oscure. Base elettronica, chitarra minimale in sottofondo, voce finalmente su toni più bassi ed un andamento che può vagamente ricordare qualcosa presente tra le collaborazioni tra Brian e Timo Maas, e su Meds (Space Monkey su tutte). Il clima è affascinante e dopo 2 minuti esplode nel ritornello il quale vede l'ingresso della batteria e del basso. Ottima la scrittura della melodia vocale e della struttura del pezzo il quale prosegue elegantemente, nella maniera da me descritta, sino al finale anticipato da un assolo di chitarra effettata molto piacevole, ed onestamente da me inaspettato.
I PLACEBO con questo pezzo dimostrano di essere ancora in grado di poter scrivere musica veramente seria, la stoffa c'è, anche se pure in questa canzone si ha la sensazione che qualcosina in più si poteva fare per rendere la 7ª traccia di Loud Like Love, un pezzo memorabile.

8. PURIFY
Intro di chitarra, suonata tipicamente nello stile di Brian, ovvero note singole e spesso dissonanti suonate ripetutametne tra loro, un po' come faceva all'epoca di Kitch Objects, Miss Moneypenny e Brick Shithouse, la differenza essenziale tra questi pezzi e Purify sta purtroppo nel ritornello, ottimo in questo episodio ma non efficacemente potente.
Brian ancora una volta preferisce ovattare il suono della sua chitarra con del phaser, limitandone la potenza distorsiva, il risultato lascia un po' con l'amaro in bocca perché il pezzo è scritto bene ed ha un ottimo tiro, sicuramente dal vivo renderà nettamente di più.

9 BEGIN THE END
Un po' come per Hold On To Me, il pezzo si apre con un arpeggio di chitarra, basso che si fa sentire alla chiusura di ogni giro e batteria inchiodata sul rullante; il tutto fa molto effetto e crea uno stato d'ansia interessante. La voce di Brian entra più dolce che mai ed il pezzo in breve prende forma.
Si potrebbe erroneamente essere portati a credere che questa sia una ballad ma invece non lo è. Questo è un pezzo dark che probabilmente da solo vale l'acquisto del disco, un pezzo ricco di enfasi ed arrangiato in maniera sapiente ed elegante, un pezzo che si lascia scoprire ed apprezzare sempre di più ad ogni ascolto, un pezzo che da circa 7 anni non si sentiva nel repertorio PLACEBO, un pezzo che in Meds avrebbe probabilmente rubato la scena a tante altre canzoni, un pezzo che come in un vortice, col passare dei minuti si carica di enfasi ed emozioni e per questo non annoia assolutamente l'ascoltatore nonostante la sua durata raggiunga esattamente i 6 minuti. Memorabile il finale.

10. BOSCO
Brian ha parlato tanto di questo pezzo, l'ha indicato come il suo preferito dell'intero disco, come quello a cui è legato emotivamente di più e non è facile capire il perché leggendone il testo e ascoltando la dolce melodia proveniente dal piano suonato da Stefan. E' un po' come un remake di Centrefolds, anche se stavolta il tutto è intriso di una dolce malinconia, di un sorriso amaro per i tanti errori commessi in passato. L'atmosfera è piacevole e rilassata, a tratti sembra quasi una via di mezzo tra una ninna nanna e una disperata confessione.. Veramente stupendi gli arrangiamenti degli archi che entrano prepotentemente nel ritornello rendendo la canzone struggente e degna dell'essere posta a chiusura del disco.

In definitiva LOUD LIKE LOVE è effettivamente un disco, come gli stessi PLACEBO hanno definito, onesto, un disco che mette a nudo ciò che i PLACEBO sono dal 2008, un gruppo con una nuova mentalità, una nuova maturità, un nuovo batterista e una nuova line up dal vivo, i PLACEBO di oggi sono semplicemente questi e Loud Like Love sintetizza perfettamente il loro sound, personalmente a me rimane l'impressione che questo sia il loro ultimo disco, il classico disco che in qualche maniera potrebbe chiudere un ciclo ventennale a meno che non decidano di proseguire lungo la scia degli ultimi pezzi del disco, regalandoci così in futuro un disco più oscuro. Sicuramente superiore a Battle For The Sun e all'orrendo EP di B3.
La stoffa c'è, ma adesso sembrano più che altro come quel classico grande calciatore a fine carriera cui è rimasto solo il piede buono ma ha perso lo scatto e l'agilità dei vecchi tempi.

Mit Meditation die Identitätskrise überwunden




Nach argen Zweifeln an seinen Qualitäten als Songwriter bringt Placebo-Frontmann Brian Molko eine spannende Comeback-CD auf den Markt.
Wir werden es wiedergutmachen“ versprach Placebo-Sänger Brian Molko (siehe KURIER-Interview 2012), nachdem er den Auftritt beim Frequency-Festival 2012 wegen einer Virus-Erkrankung abbrechen musste. Jetzt ist es so weit: Freitag erscheint die neue CD „Loud Like Love“ . Im KURIER-Interview spricht er über die Krise, die er damals durchmachte und erklärt, was er für das neue „Opium fürs Volk“ hält.

KURIER: Wie kam es, dass „Loud Like Love“ ein Songzyklus über die Liebe wurde?
Brian Molko: Ich habe mich tatsächlich noch nie hingesetzt und gesagt, jetzt schreibe ich über dies oder das. Ich habe mich bei den Texten immer instinktiv von der Stimmung leiten lassen, die mir die Musik gegeben hat. So war es auch jetzt. Irgendwann ist mir aufgefallen: Diesmal schreibe ich nur über die Liebe. Aber keine klassischen Liebeslieder, sondern darüber, wie viel Anstrengung sie braucht, wie gewaltsam und brutal sie sein kann, wie aufreibend ihre Abwesenheit ist.

Als wir vor dem Frequency-Auftritt sprachen, waren Sie nicht nur krank, sondern auch in einer Krise. Sind diese Songs aus dieser Krise geboren?
Als wir uns das letzte Mal trafen, hatte ich tatsächlich eine tiefe Identitätskrise. Ich hatte Zweifel an allem – an meinem Leben als Künstler, an meinem persönlichen Leben. Es waren vor allem persönliche Probleme. Ich habe mich total verloren gefühlt, fragte mich: Was mache ich mit meinem Leben? Und: Will ich das alles? Sagen wir es so: Diese Songs sind fiktive Kurzgeschichten, die auf wahren Emotionen und realen Ereignissen basieren. Aber ich musste Storys und Erzähler rund um die Ereignisse kreieren, um dabei ehrlich sein zu können.

Würden Sie sich zu verletzlich fühlen, wenn Sie in den Songs sagen würden: Ich bin der, der das alles durchgemacht hat?
Das tue ich ja ohnehin. Zum Beispiel gerade jetzt (lacht). Aber wenn alles in der ersten Person erzählt wäre, wäre es doch ein bisschen unwürdig. So, als würde ich meine Schmutzwäsche in der Öffentlichkeit waschen.

Vor einem Jahr haben Sie sogar das Musikmachen infrage gestellt. Wollten Sie aufhören?
Mein Lieblingssong von den Beatles heißt „Yer Blues“. John Lennon war da offenbar in genauso einer dunklen Phase wie ich. Er singt: „Ich bin so einsam, ich will sterben“. Und dass er seinen Rock ’n’ Roll hasst. Manchmal stellt man eben genau die Dinge infrage, die einem am wichtigsten sind – weil irgendwo auf dem Weg etwas verloren gegangen ist. Aber solche Phasen hat jeder. Nur leider dringen sie bei mir in die Öffentlichkeit.

Was ging verloren? Und wie haben Sie es wiedergefunden?
Die Freude am Kreieren. Die habe ich bei den Aufnahmen zu „Loud Like Love“ wiedergefunden. Irgendwann hatte ich wieder das Gefühl, noch gute Songs schreiben zu können. Und privat war der Buddhismus die positive Kraft. 2012 war ich in Thailand , bin dort mit Buddhisten in Kontakt gekommen. Ich bin keiner, der das als Religion sofort annimmt. Aber diese Philosophie zu studieren und meditieren zu lernen, hat mir sehr geholfen.

Die Single „Too Many Friends“ klingt, als würden Sie Facebook hassen ...
Ich hasse Facebook nicht, ich fand im Gegenteil neue Technologien schon immer faszinierend. Der Song handelt auch nicht von Facebook, sondern von einer sehr modernen Form der Einsamkeit. Ich überlege dabei, was es für Freundschaften bedeutet, dass wir so besessen davon sind, unsere Leben in der Öffentlichkeit zu leben. Was für einen Effekt es auf unsere Gesellschaft hat, dass wir zwar physisch nebeneinander sitzen, aber den Verlockungen der Smartphones nicht widerstehen können. Denn lass uns nicht naiv sein: Konzerne wie Facebook haben nicht im Sinn, uns näher zusammenzubringen. Die wollen nur Reichtum für einige Wenige kreieren.

Welche Effekte hat es?
Dass es den Leuten schwerer fällt, mit anderen Menschen ein Risiko einzugehen und sich in Beziehungen offen und somit verletzlich zu machen. Meiner Meinung nach braucht es das, um eine Art Lebensglück zu finden. Es ist aber viel sicherer, den Computer zwischenzuschalten. Und ich fürchte, dass Technologie die Religionen als „Opium fürs Volk“ verdrängt. Schuld daran ist aber nicht die Technologie. Das sind immer die Menschen selbst.

Der berührendste Song ist „Bosco“. Wem ist der gewidmet?
Das ist meine Entschuldigung an eine ganze spezielle Person, die aber ungenannt bleiben soll. Ich bin dabei ganz ehrlich, da gibt es keine Story und keinen Erzähler. Deshalb ist es bis heute sehr schwierig für mich, „Bosco“ zu hören, ohne dass mir Tränen in die Augen steigen.

What effects does it have?
That it harder for people to take a risk with other people and to get open and therefore vulnerable in relationships. I think it needs it to find a kind of happiness in life . It is much safer between the computer back on . And I fear that technology displaces the religions as " opium of the people " . Blame but is not the technology . These are always the people themselves

The most touching song is " Bosco " . Who is the dedicated ?

Host: Brian, Stef and Steve are with us again to talk about their latest album and the oncoming tour. He mentions the gig in France and elsewhere where there will be loads of fans who have been listening to them for years and among these, all those who follow them on social medias, such as twitter and facebook.
“There have been lots of changes since 1994 so do you use social medias?”
Brian: NO. Stef and I don’t but Steve does.
Stef: I don’t.
Steve explains that he does; facebook more for the family and stuff and twitter since a couple of years.
Hosts: so nowadays fans are connected on facebook and twitter but your first fans, those from the fist years, aren’t they the ones the hardest to convince and to please with your new albums.

Host: aren’t they those who always expect too much from you?
Brian (giggling): there are always fans who are way too demanding! You’re doing a show and there’s always one at the end of the gig that says ‘how come you haven’t played that B-side of the single that was only released in Japan in 1972… I’m very disappointed”.
We try to enjoy ourselves first while pleasing our audiences too.
Host: that’s good. Fans are happy then and there are more and more of them. I know you like The Cure and David Bowie helped you at the beginning of your career. Do you still keep in touch with them?
Brian: yeah, we were just having a chat on the phone 5 minutes ago, before we got into the studio.
Host: oh! They’re fine?
Brian: yeah, they’re good and they say hello to you!
Host: oh yeah, it’s been a while! Have they heard your last albums or some of the tracks?
Brian: we always send them a copy.
Host: and their opinion on it?
Brian: they love it of course….
Host: I knew it. We’re going to love it too on Sept 16th.
Brian: and there’s always a big bunch of flowers that is sent afterwards…
Host: oh that’s grand! How nice of them…and among the more recent artists, are you impressed by any of them? Are there any you’d love to work with?
Brian: I’m a big fan of the islandic band, Sigur Ròs. I really like the music with lyrics I don’t understand at all. That intrigues me. (fascinates?)
Stef: for me it’s a pianist from Berlin (didn’t catch the name). For me it’s very important to listen to music which is very different from ours, and that’s what he does.
Steve: Flaming lips (wings?)
Host: any French artist you know and like? You can say no…!
Brian: just laughs
Steve: phoenix / daft punk
Stef: very partial to one track from Daft Punk’s new album. He mentions another track that reminds him his childhood.
Host: after 7 albums, lots of copies sold, you still have many more ideas?
Brian: we hope so! But wealways feel a bit insecure with every new album. I hope the spark’s still there. We still feel the passion for the job. When we’re about to release a new album, the question is always ‘are we still able to communicate it ?’
Host: we’ll get the answer in September. One last word to convince French people to buy your album?
Brian: “saperlipopette” (good heavens / Gosh)
Stef: c’est nickel (It’s perfect)
Steve : très joile (literally: very pretty, hence the jokes afterwards).
Host: do you recall any good story from aftershow parties?
Brian: wow. As I said, I had so much fun in the 90s, I can’t remember anything…

First question related to the fact that placebo will celebrate their 20th anniversary next year.
Host: Have you planned anything yet to celebrate the fact that Brian and Stef, you met 20 years ago? A big surprise to your fans?
Stef: a cake?
Brian: we’ll go out and eat sushi!
Host: yeah and you’ll invite all your fans?
Brian: no, we won’t even invite Steve!
Host: I think we won’t get any more details about the 20th anniversary of the group. However you’ve released a great numbers of hits since it started, so what’s your favourite hit?
Brian: ……………
Stef: very hard one
Host: yeah very hard but we won’t leave before we get an answer.
Brian: what about you? What’s your favourite one?
Host: Special K (with Brian in the background correcting Host’s accent: Kayyyyyyyyyy)
Brian: yeah…well maybe something a little darker. Don’t know really.
Stef: For us it’s always the latest album; it’s the one the closest to us.
Brian: I’m very proud of the last track of the new album.
(no need to translate Steve’s answer ;-) Brian and Stef should translate Steve in French, the translator is bad)
Host: so the next album will be released on September 16th; just amazing to have you back again. Are you excited by this new ‘baby’?
Brian (laughing) yes, as always! In fact ‘loud like love’ may have several meanings: it can be about physical love but also the birth of a new baby for example so, yeah we’re excited!
Host: can you tell us about that new album, Can we expect to hear some kind of continuity or is it going to be something entirely different from the past?
Brian: I think that this time we’ve taken all the things that we’ve tried to achieve these last 20 years and we’ve mixed them together. We’ve put the best bits and we’ve mixed everything!
Host: so the best of the best?
Brian: I do hope so!
Steph: that’ll be the ultimate sound!
Host: where did you get your inspiration from this time? From artists? Life experiences?
Brian: These are stories based on real life facts or real emotions but nonetheless they are pieces of a writing process. It’s not really a page or pages from my own diary that I had torn and used to write songs. for me the writing process is really important, to find myself in it, to relate to it.
There’s the same theme throughout the album; it’s that precise theme ‘loud like love’; its love and all its aspects that has fallen upon us rather than the opposite; we haven’t meaningfully decided to create an album on that topic. It may be the most popular topic in music and arts. It could have been a ‘cliché’ and the fact that people didn’t expect Placebo to deal with that made us even more excited to work on it.
Host: you’ve already released 7 albums; you’ve sold million of copies…will you feel stressed on sept 16th?
Brian: I am trying to recall how I felt the day when the last album was released. Well, I think it can get really unnoticed because we spend so much time promoting it before the actual release. It’s almost as if we met at noon and then went ‘oh shit, it’s today; the release was this morning!”
Host: what about the single ‘too many friends’: Can you tell us about it? Is it your favourite track?
Brian: oh waouh… I don’t know but it’s a track dealing with all that interconnectivity that we get nowadays with new technologies. Is it really something that gets us closer to one another or does it deepen social anxiety? (he didn’t finish his last sentence!)

Int: si molto difficile ma non ce ne andiamo finchè non sapremo la risposta
Brian: e tu? Quale è la tua preferita?
Int: Special K (con brian che dietro gli correggeva la pronuncia di Kaaaaaay)
Brian: si magari qualcosa di più cupo. Davvero non so
Stefan: per noi è sempre l'ultimo album, è quello più vicino/legato a noi
Brian: sono molto fiero dell'ultima traccia del nuovo album (ndr Bosco)
Int: quindi il prossimo album uscirà il 16 settembre; è fantastico che siate tornati. Siete eccitati per questo nuovo “bambino”?
Brian (ridendo): si, come sempre! In fatti loud like love potrebbe avere piu significati: può riguardare l'amore fisico ma anche la nascita di un nuovo bambino per esempio, quindi si siamo eccitati!
Int: potete parlarci del nuovo album, possiamo aspettarci di sentire una sorta di continuità o sarà qualcosa di completamente differente rispetto al passato?
Brian: credo che questa volta abbiamo preso tutte le cose che abbiamo cercato di ottenere in questi ultimi 20 anni e le abbiamo mescolate insieme. Abbiamo messo le parti/cose migliori e abbiamo mixato tutto!!
Int: quindi il meglio del meglio?
Brian: lo spero!
Stefan: sarà il massimo del suono! (non so bene come rendere il termine ultimate in sostanza vuol dire il meglio del meglio, proprio l'ultima cosa migliore del mondo LOL)
Int: dove avete preso l'ispirazione questa volta? Da artisti? Esperienze di vita?
Brian: queste sono storie prese da veri episodi di vita reale ed emozioni ma sono comunque pezzi derivati da un processo di scrittura. Non sono necessariamente una pagina o pagine del mio diario personale che ho strappato e usato per scrivere canzoni. Per me il processo di scrittura è molto importante, di trovarmi in esso e di rapportarmi/ritrovarmi con esso.
C'è lo stesso tema in tutto l'album, è uno schema preciso: loud like love. È l'amore in tutti i suoi aspetti che ci è caduto addosso (che è venuto da noi) piuttosto che il contrario. Non abbiamo deciso razionalmente di creare un album su quell'argomento. È l'argomento più popolare/usato nella musica e nell'arte. Sarebbe potuto essere un clichè e il fatto che le persone non si aspettano che i placebo si confrontassero con questo (con il tema dell'amore) ci ha reso ancora piu entusiasti di lavorarci!
Int: avete già realizzato 7 album; avete venduto milioni di copie... sarete stressati il 16 settembre?
Brian: sto cercando di ricordare come mi ero sentito il giorno in cui è uscito il nostro ultimo album. Beh, credo che possa passare inosservato (il giorno preciso) perchè passiamo tantissimo tempo a promuoverlo prima che esca. È come se ci incontrassimo a mezzogiorno e poi dicessimo “oh merda è oggi. l'uscita era questa mattina!”
Int: e per quanto riguarda il singolo “too many friends”? Puoi parlarcene? È la tua traccia preferita?
Brian: oh waouh… non so ma è la traccia che ha a che fare con tutta la interconnessione che abbbiamo in questi tempi con le tecnologie. È veramente qualcosa che ci rende piu vicini gli uni agli altri o peggiora l'ansia sociale (di socializzare)? (Brian non ha finito quest'ultima frase)
