Purify

Spatial awareness
So much confusion
And it's so difficult to harness
But then I look at you
Nimble and righteous
And then I look at the floor
We made a fine mess

My kiss
Can you feel it yet?
In the back of the legs
And on the nape of your neck

Are you a temple?
Are you a temptress?
There's too much choice
The possibilites are endless

So wash away my sins
Give me catharsis
And re-magnetise
My moral compass

My kiss
Can you feel it yet?
In the back of the legs
And on the nape of your neck

Your touch
Well I can not regret
I love the shape of your mouth
And the back of your head

You are so my kind
Erotic and divine
I gotta testify
To how you purify

To me you're more than a human
You are more complex
You’re like a fallen angel
Who uses God as a hex

My kiss
Can you feel it yet?
In the back of the legs
And on the nape of your neck

Your touch
Well I can not regret
I love the shape of your mouth
And the back of your head

You are so my kind
Erotic and divine
I gotta testify
To how you purify

Purificare

Consapevolezza spaziale
Così tanta confusione
Ed è così difficile da controllare
Ma poi ti guardo
Intelligente e virtuosa
E poi fisso il pavimento
Abbiamo fatto un bel casino

Il mio bacio
Riesci ancora a sentirlo?
Dietro alle gambe
E sulla tua nuca

Sei un tempio?
Sei una tentatrice?
C’è fin troppa scelta
Le possibilità sono infinite

E allora lava via i miei peccati
Portami alla catarsi
E rimagnetizza
la mia bussola morale

Il mio bacio
Riesci ancora a sentirlo?
Dietro alle gambe
E sulla tua nuca

Il tuo contatto
Beh, non posso rifiutarlo
Amo la forma della tua bocca
E il dietro della tua testa

Sei esattamente il mio tipo
Sensuale e divina
Devo verificare
Come puoi purificare

Riesci ancora a sentirlo?
Dietro alle gambe
E sulla tua nuca

Il tuo contatto
Beh, non posso rifiutarlo
Amo la forma della tua bocca
E il dietro della tua testa

Sei così premurosa
Sensuale e divina
Devo verificare
Come puoi purificare

Exit Wounds

In the arms of another
Who doesn't mean anything to you
There's nothing much to discover

Does he shake, does he shiver
As he sidles up to you
Like I did in my time

As you wake, does he smother
You In kisses long and true
Does he even think to bother

And at night under covers
As he's sliding into you
Does it set your sweat on fire

Want you so bad I can taste it
But you're nowhere to be found
I'll take a drug to replace it
Or put me in the ground

In the arms of another
Who doesn't mean anything to you
Do you lose yourself in wonder

If I could, I would hover
While he's making love to you
Making rain as I cry

Want you so bad I can taste it
But you're nowhere to be found
And I'll take a drug to replace it
Or put me in the ground

Want you so bad I can taste it
But you're nowhere to be found
I'll take a drug to replace it
Or put me in the ground

Put me in the ground
And put me in the ground
Put me in the ground

Ferite d'abbandono

Nelle braccia di un altro
Che non conta niente per te
Non resta molto da scoprire

Si agita? Freme
Mentre scrivola su di te?
Come io facevo ai miei tempi

Quando ti svegli, ti ricopre
di baci lunghi e sinceri?
Pensa persino di poterti infastidire?

E di notte, sotto le coperte
Mentre ti scivola dentro
Ti fa sudare dall’eccitazione?

O mi lascerò cadere a terra

Nelle braccia di un altro
Che non conta niente per te
Ti perdi mai nei tuoi pensieri?

Se potessi, mi aggirerei su di voi
Mentre fate l’amore

O mi lascerò cadere a terra

O mi lascerò cadere a terra

Placebo Quotes about EXIT WOUNDS

In " Exist Wounds " you describe your pain at the thought that your ex sleeping with her new .
I have the song played to a few people . In the end, many were touched uncomfortable . They told me they would not know this feeling . This made me very surprised .

Do you believe them?
Yes, why should not I ? Not every person has ever felt so sad. But are these people really better off ? I do not know.

Do you feel more than others?
You'll have to ask my psychiatrist. Which would certainly be a lot to say.

Brian Molko, 20 Minuten

I’ve actually heard the album today, and there’s a track on it called ‘Exit Wounds’. What does the track mean to you?

The way I see it is if I can’t have you, and there’s nothing else I can replace you with then I’d rather be dead. It’s not something that I personally experience; it is a very extreme place to be in. You’ll have to ask Brian about it. I don’t think Brian would write about something he doesn’t have an emotional connection to. I think the lyrics are ambiguous enough for people to make up their own stories and live it through them. But there’s an element of him in all this stories and on this album.

A Million Little Pieces

There wasn't much I used to need
A smile would blow a summer breeze through
My heart

Now my mistakes are haunting me
Like winter came and put a freeze on
My heart

I've lost the power to understand
What it takes to be a man with
My heart

I saw you wanted this to end
You tried your best to be a friend to
My heart

But I'm leaving
This weary town
Please no grieving
My love, understand

Whenever I was feeling wrong
I used to go and write a song from
My heart

But now I fear I've lost my spark
No more glowing in the dark for
My heart

So I'm leaving
This weary town
Please no grieving
My love, understand

Understand
Understand
Understand
Understand
Understand

Can't you see I'm sick of fighting?
Understand
Cant you tell I've lost my way?
Understand
Look at me, there's no denying
Understand
I won't last another day

So I'm leaving
This weary town
Please no grieving
My love, understand

Then I'm leaving
This weary town
Please no grieving
My love, understand

All my dreaming
Torn in pieces
All my dreaming
Torn in pieces
All my dreaming
Torn in pieces
All my dreaming
Torn in pieces now

Adesso i miei stessi errori mi stanno perseguitando

Tutti i miei sogni
Dilaniati in pezzi
Tutti i miei sogni
Dilaniati in pezzi
Tutti i miei sogni
Dilaniati in pezzi
Tutti i miei sogni
Dilaniati in pezzi

Placebo Quotes about A MILLION LITTLE PIECES

Which song from your new album was to take the hardest for you?

Steve Forrest : " Million Little Peaces " was difficult for me . This was mainly due to all the electronic elements , which we have used in this song . Loops and all these technical tricks were a real challenge for me. I would almost say it was a painful experience ! But in hindsight it's a cool result , so it has been fully paid off .

Steve Forrest: N24

Also called " A Million Little Pieces " can theoretically turn out in all directions.
Molko : This song is about desperation and hopelessness . I have the title from the memoirs of the American author James Frey. He describes his experience with the following dependencies and rehabilitation. This song is all about , that you feel totally lost and astray . They want to finish the course , but it is not easy. I recommend everyone to read the book and play our music behind it ( laughs).

Brian Molko, Krone.at

J: the track ‘a million little pieces’ which, according to me is a cornerstone in the album, reminds me of ‘we come in pieces’ which is the name of a DVD. Is there some kind of link between them? Is there some sort of logic in it?
B: hem…no…( laughs)…no, I’d never given it a thought actually. That’s exactly the same with ‘rob the bank’. When the recording session was finished, someone told me “oh that reminds of ‘follow the cops back home and rob their houses’! I thought ‘oh shit, I didn’t expect that!’
So here it is, now its ‘a million little pieces’, ‘we come in pieces’. I didn’t reflect on that! But I have stolen that title from James Frey’s book, an American writer who wrote some sort of fictionalised memoirs that focus on his life and all his problems related to addiction.
The track itself is quite generic but nonetheless I wanted to make that connexion with this book so that people might feel like reading it after listening tot the track, so that it might open up the mind and give a lot of context to the song.

Rob The Bank

Rob the bank
Of England and America
Rob the bank
Of the entire Euro zone
Rob the bank
Of Mexico and Canada
Rob the bank
Then take me home

But take me home
And make love (x3)

Rob the bank
Make a joke out of dyslexia
Rob the bank
Then pick your nose
Rob the bank
Paint a picture of a swastika
Rob the bank
Then take me home

But take me home
And make love (x8)

And if ever I suspect that in your head
You're somewhere else, you are thinking
Or maybe you don't think of me at all
And if ever you conspire to woo another
I will not be forsaken

Beware the very hell and all its fury
If I am scorned
Scorned!

Rob the bank
Of Luxemburg and Monaco
Rob the bank
In Liechtenstein and Rome
Rob the bank
Hit the biggest vault in Moscow
Rob the bank
Then take me home

But take me home
And make love (x8)

Deruba la banca

Deruba la banca
d’Inghilterra e d’America
Deruba la banca
Dell’intera zona Euro
Deruba la banca
Di Messico e Canada
Deruba la banca
E poi portami a casa

Ma portami a casa
E facciamo l’amore

Deruba la manca
Prenditi gioco della dislessia
Deruba la banca
Poi mettiti le dita nel naso
Deruba la banca
Disegna una svastica
Deruba la banca
E poi portami a casa

Ma portami a casa
E facciamo l’amore(x8)

Deluso!

E poi portami a casa

Ma portami a casa
E facciamo l’amore(x8)

Placebo Quotes about ROB THE BANK

A highlight of the album is without a doubt " Rob The Bank " dar. What is behind this number?
As hard as we are no longer on this song sounded a long time. The content is in the song to less wealth than to pleasure. The guy in the song says, " . I do not care whether what I am doing , antisocial, immoral or criminal , as long as it satisfies me " to do without consideration and to do what satisfies one - the idea is something like unfortunately, I must admit .

Stefan Olsdal, Nachrichten

Your father was a banker and initially wanted, that you work in finance. Is the song 'Rob The Bank "on your new album your belated revenge for that?

No, not really. That the financial sector is in some ways a family tradition for me. But since I was about eleven, was irrefutable proof for me that I would do something in the field of art and representation. I was interested very early for acting and theater. And I soon made friends with the idea to go my own way. I've learned that you have to have confidence in themselves and the courage to follow his convictions to achieve something. I think that helped me later in the context of the band. What "Rob The Bank" is concerned, the title of course leads you astray. It's in the song is not about the financial crisis ...

It could be that in lines such as "Rob the Bank of England and America, rob the bank of the Entire euro zone" thoroughly once think. But then it says yes: "But take me home Make Love." ...

Yes, actually it was me in the song about I deal with obsessive physical desire and jealousy. This also fits into the subliminal theme of the whole album. For me, the album consists of ten short stories that solely examine a topic from different angles - that has always been by far the most illuminated theme in popular songs.

Of course the love ...

Yes, and I think you can not really talk about love without talking also about obsession, jealousy and heated emotions. There are now once these feelings in relationships. And that's what the song is. The narrator says in essence, "I do not care what you do as I'm committing so many crimes as you want you can make fun of you I care about people with disabilities, you can have the worst prejudices you can behave impossible.... , being vulgar and boring in public in the nose I fuck -.. as long as you come home at the end of the day and befriedigst me and should you ever watch someone else, I'll fucking kill you one more thing. "(laughs)

Okay, I'm convinced that it's not about the financial crisis in the song ...

(laughs) No. But it is a good hook for the song. And I did it, "Liechtenstein" be placed in a text. Then I'm also really proud of.

Brian Molko, N-tv

But it must have been fun to write as the son of a banker the song ' Rob The Bank " .
This song gave me a big portion of nasty pleasure prepare ( laughs). It 's not about the financial crisis and blame the banks . Even though I 'm proud " Liechtenstein " speak almost right.

They sing " Licktenstein " .

Yes , as I said, almost right. The song is about obsession and jealousy. In the song I say " I do not care what you do. You can steal and disabled insult , but as long as you come home at night, I forgive you all. "

Brian Molko, Hamburger Morgenpost

"You can go out and exercise crime , you disgusting behavior by you insult people because of their fault you too." This can also be racist or prejudiced . You can vulgar behave when you run with wrinkled nose through the area you also in normal society . It is my shit. As long as you come home at the end of the day and make me happy , to me that is totally care. If you look at someone else and so treat me like , rather then pass on , because then I 'm going to finish ( laughs). This is simply obsessive desires.

Brian Molko, Krone.at

What’s the idea behind the track ‘Robbing the Bank’?

I understand why it’s misunderstood; a lot of people take it on face value thinking it’s about the economic crisis but the story of that which Brian had to explain to me before I could understand really. It is a list of quasi-illegal acts (like sort of criminal things like robbing the bank for example, if you do that you can get arrested) the song is basically a list of bad things and bad actions that the person is doing but the person who’s singing basically says I don’t care what you do or the kind of person you are, just as long as the end of the day you just get home and f*ck me.

Stefan Olsdal, Bandwagon

The lyrics of "Rob The Bank" seem to be an echo to"Follow The Cops Back Home". Is it deliberate?
B.M : In fact we noticed that after we've already recorded and mixed the song. Afriend told me about it the first. The theme of "Rob The Bank" is simple, but very deep. that is to say: "You can commit the most horrible things, crimes and robberies, as far as you come back home to make love to me." It has nothing to do with recession, the economic crisis and the riots that took place in England. The bank robbery is only a pretext to express a decidedly sensual desire.

RockMag July 2013

J:Has your brother listened to ‘Rob the Bank’ yet?

B: no, not yet. But that track is deceptive. It doesn’t deal with the financial crisis at all. It’s a song about obsession, jealousy…a king of carnal obsession that you feel towards someone else. There’s also a list of crimes, of disgusting things. The person in the song says ‘do whatever you want, have an appalling behaviour, I don’t care as long you make love to me as soon as you’re back home. (laughs)

J: Don’t tell you were not thinking of someone close to you in that song?

B: yes, of course… of course I was…but I found it interesting to toy with that; to write about obsession but through something that’s not directly related to it.

Pure FM

“Rob the Bank” is not about financial crisis: It’s about obsession and jealousy, very carnal, primal obsession and jealousy.

PureVolume

Brian Molko, Rolling Stone Italia

Rob the bank can be taken as a commentary to economy crisis but it’s only superficial meaning. It’s a song about sex after a really hard day, at least it’s how Brian explained it to me (laughs). Lyrics are about a list of things that are treated as illegal: burglary, robberies and sex.

Hold On To Me

Who let the cat out of a bag?
Who told the world I was older?
Who laughed at all I had?
Who said the race was over?

I am a small and gentle man
Who carries the world upon his shoulders
Kindly lend a helping hand
Come over

And hold on to me
Hold on to me
And hold on to me
Hold on

And my behaviour is hard to understand
When I'm like a phone with no connection
But I'm still doing all I can
To try and get me some redemption

And I'm knee deep in sinking sand
Crying out for your attention
Kindly lend a helping hand
For once defy convention

And hold on to me
Hold on to me
Hold on to me
Hold on

And hold on to me
Hold on to me
Hold on to me
Hold on

Our task is to transform ourselves into awakened multidimensional beings
Thus fully merging the fourth and fifth dimensions into the third
It is the inner union between Earth ascending and Heaven descending
This sacred merger has already been achieved by many of us
And numerous others are awakening daily as the Call steadfastly intensifies
We are reclaiming our Divine Birthright and Heritage
Remembering that we are Angels incarnate, vast starry beings of Light
Who are no longer limited and bound by the illusions of time, space and matter

We are ready to join as emanations of the One
The new doorways cannot be opened or passed through
By any of us still operating as invidiual beings of consciousness
They are brought into manifestation through our Unified Presence
Through our focused intent
Through our total commitment to serving our Higher Purpose
This is the bridge to an entirely different energy patterning
It is the step beyond the known dimensional universe
It is a journey into the unkown which shall lead us ever closer to home

Aggrappati A Me

Raggiungimi

E aggrappati a me
Aggrappati a me
E aggrappati a me
Aggrappati

E aggrappati a me
Aggrappati a me
Aggrappati a me
Aggrappati

E aggrappati a me
Aggrappati a me
Aggrappati a me
Aggrappati

Placebo Quotes about HOLD ON TO ME

eleschau: And what's with "Hold On To Me" on? In the spoken part of the song you cite the author and Solara speak of a gate to another universe .

Molko : It's a goal in a new , spiritual world, therefore , to achieve a collective consciousness to leave the physical world and become part of the universe in its origin ( laughs). I admit , that sounds totally stupid . But on the plate it sounds really good!

Brian Molko, Stimme.de

Some titles are very moving, "Hold On To Me" in particular ...
B.M : That song deals with the absence of love and the reaction of a human being to what may be called a craving. The narrator uses in the first person and in the middle of the song, there are strings coming out of nowhere. It is a transformation, we enter the spiritual realm, as if the narrator is one with universe and humanity, aware of being part of something much bigger than his desires. It is a way for me to say that love transcends the human being.

It's very Buddhist ...
B.M : Well ... Yes, you're right. Buddhism has had a strong influence on my way of thinking ... It pushed me to see things from another perspective. Congratulations, you're right, it's true, there is a real connection between Buddhism and the song, who deals with the quest which will lead us all into something more important that everything we will never have.

RockMag July 2013

Too Many Friends

My computer thinks I'm gay
I threw that piece of junk away
On the Champs-Elysées
As I was walking home

This is my last communiqué
Down the superhighway
All that I have left to say
In a single tome

I've got too many friends
Too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
Cause I'll never be there

If I could give it all away
Would it come back to me someday?
Like a needle in the hay
Or an expensive stone

But I got a reason to declaim
The applications are to blame
For all my sorrow and my pain
of feeling so alone

I got too many friends
Too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
Cause I'll never be there

My computer thinks I'm gay
What's the difference anyway
When all that people do all day
Is stare into a phone

I got too many friends
Too many people
That I'll never meet
And I'll never be there for
I'll never be there for
Cause I'll never be there

Troppi Amici

mentre tornavo a casa.
Questo è il mio ultimo comunicato
dall'autostrada
Tutto ciò che mi resta da dire
(è racchiuso) in un unico volume.

Ho troppi amici, troppe persone

Se potessi mandare tutto all'aria
prima o poi tornerebbe tutto come prima?

Ho troppi amici, troppe persone

Ho troppi amici, troppe persone

Placebo Quotes about TOO MANY FRIENDS

Does the song " Too Many Friends" portray the social networking phenomena Facebook, Twitter and the likes only negative?

It's a song about modern loneliness that is disguised as busyness . Especially zealous Facebook and Twitter Posters poet but in real life, often from . This new kind of social isolation is clear in bars and restaurants. Where the discrepancy between physical proximity and mental distance is surprisingly high . The small screen is unfortunately many attractive than the real man at the next table .

Do you personally have negative experiences with it?

Of course . Before there was Facebook, the fans wanted , where they met me , talk to me. Now they only ask for a photo with me , which they then post on Facebook to show their friends that they have made a rock star. This is very dehumanizing for me.

Brian Molko, Die Presse

The song 'Too Many Friends' concerns about using social networks. What do you all think?

I have an image of a man who sits at home alone in front of the computer, but at the same time, Facebook had thousands of friends appear . I thought about this divide . How can you have so many virtual relationships , and still be completely unable to communicate in the real world?

Brian Molko, Moustique

The single " Too Many Friends" sounds as if you would hate Facebook ...
I do not hate Facebook , I found the contrary, new technologies have always been fascinating. The song also is not about Facebook, but of a very modern form of loneliness. I think about it , what it means for friendships that we are so obsessed with it , to live our lives in public. What it has on our society for an effect that while we sit next to each other physically , but can not resist the lure of smartphones. Because let's not be naive : companies like Facebook have not , in the sense of bringing us closer together . They just want to create wealth for a few people .

What effects does it have?
That it harder for people to take a risk with other people and to get open and therefore vulnerable in relationships. I think it needs it to find a kind of happiness in life . It is much safer between the computer back on . And I fear that technology displaces the religions as " opium of the people " . Blame but is not the technology . These are always the people themselves

Brian Molko, Kurier

The single " Too Many Friends " criticized Facebook. Why do not you like social media?
The song is not necessarily of social media , but simply of technology and loneliness. Previously people were waiting in romantic songs by the phone until it rang. It is the same ie , only the technology has changed. I do not believe that technology is the problem, but the people . In just tried to talk about today's loneliness. I'm also fascinated by how changed friendship.

If it does it really ?
I think so. If you want to get really close to a person , you have to take a risk . You have to allow yourself to be vulnerable . Otherwise there can be no real connection , and without such we can never be happy. Unless you 're a Buddhist monk.

That's not always the case.
But today it is so that instead of being physically present rather stare at a screen . That takes away our vulnerability. We present ourselves in an edited edition from us online. That's why people take no more listeners in the hand and lead a real conversation .

Brian Molko, 20 Minuten

“Too Many Friends is based on real events. One day I was at my computer – and I don’t know what I typed into Google… what dodgy porn I was watching… and all of sudden my computer started advertising to me. Like, you know, I was a gay man into the fetish thing. And I remember saying to myself, ‘My computer thinks I’m gay today’ – what a ridiculous line to start a song (laughs). Around the same time, some friends of mine who use social media, and I should say that I don’t myself because I have enough trouble keeping up with my real friends, said they had to stop taking friend requests because they had too many friends. I started thinking ‘How can we ever have too many friends? Then I wondered how many ‘real’ friends do I actually have and how is the virtual world humans are creating affecting the way we interact with each other?

“Is it creating a new society founded on togetherness or is it simply creating a new form of social alienation? I think it’s very dangerous. People don’t have to communicate face to face anymore – you can do it from behind a screen. You no longer have to have the courage of your convictions – you don’t have to justify what you feel and what you really mean. The virtual world creates an amazing platform for the spineless. It’s both a fascinating and dangerous proposition to consider.”

Brian Molko, The music.com.au

Brian Molko, XL Repubblica

It’s funny with that line; it’s kind of androgynous and with Stefan being gay and everything… But that line itself, Brian was just on the internet one day and he was getting pop-ups as if he was a gay man, for all these gay websites and stuff, you know what I mean? So he comes up and says, “My computer thinks I’m gay”, and that’s where that line came from (laughs). What a great line to start a song out with, what an androgynous line! It’s gonna grab people’s attention, you know?

Steve Forrest, Music Feeds

Your new single “Too Many Friends” seems a bit of a rallying cry against social media…
"Too Many Friends" is most definitely not a rallying cry against social media. It is a small story about social alienation. I do worry, however, that technology is fast replacing religion as the opium of the people. But we cannot blame the technology itself—people are the problem. After all, guns don't kill people, but people do.

Brian Molko, Bk.asia-city

On “Too many friends”, probably the most striking song on the new record contentwise, he rants at the effects which use of social media sites can have on human beings. The song was inspired by a succession of minor, each on their own petty/insignificant incidents happening within a few days. “First of all my computer started to show only advertisements directed at gay men” he remembers laughing. “I have no idea what I typed in on Google or which porn I had watched! That’s how the first line “My computer thinks I’m gay” sprung to my mind. At the same time a friend of mine, who - in contrast to myself – is active in social networks said to me that he’s not accepting any more friends requests because he had “too many friends”. I couldn’t get this out of my head anymore! How could you have too many friends? This made me think about the difference between friendships in virtual and real life. After all, today people that are physically present at the same place are mentally absent because they’re constantly staring at their phone. This was the starting point for the song and I think it captures the present situation quite well.”

Brian Molko, Zillo magazine

WOULD YOU SAY THAT YOUR NEW SINGLE ‘TOO MANY FRIENDS’ IS AN ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA PROTEST SONG IN A WAY? DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA YOURSELVES?

Brian: I wouldn’t say that I’m anti it but I don’t use it – I’ve never felt the need or the desire to. The song was kind of inspired by a couple of things… some friends of mine that do use social media had said to me that they’d stopped taking friend requests because they had too many, and that was a real novel idea to me because I don’t social network so I didn’t really understand. I started thinking about, ‘well, how many friends do I have, how many real friends do I have? And how many imaginary friends do they have that they could have too many?’ And it got me thinking about the nature of friendship and how it’s changed and it made me ask myself a few questions like, ‘are we better off, now that we live our lives in public and now that we communicate with each other through these social mediums? Is it a way of staying in touch with everybody or a way of not staying in touch with everybody?’ We don’t have to call people up on the telephone anymore because you announce to the whole world what you’re doing. I wonder how has this changed the way people interact with each other and if it’s having a positive effect or a negative effect on our ability to connect with each other in the physical world, particularly when we’ve become such slaves to our smartphones. I’m as guilty as the next guy, I freak out if I don’t have it on but is it really healthy?

Stefan: I think musically that song is a bit of a celebration of our love of big anthemic eighties pop, like ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. We kind of went all out there musically for that track. And I think in terms of lyrical subject, it definitely touches upon the effect of technology and on the way that we interact. It’s a phenomenon that’s occurring right now and we’re just asking a few questions like, ‘is it actually bringing people closer together? Creating a lot of cyber friends – what does that actually mean? Does it mean that you have more friends or does it mean you’re creating some kind of virtual existence?’

Hungertv

Talking bout “Too Many Friends,” my personal take was how privacy is sacred and technology is everywhere even when I look at my Facebook page, Iʼm wondering who half these people really are and was the message you wanted to give or something.

S: You touched on something that we relate to – privacy. Neither me or Brian are engaged in social media. I set up a Facebook account then I immediately shut it down. I felt, first of all, that I was being invaded by all these people who wanted to be my friend and there is a reason Iʼm not in touch with these people anymore. (It felt) almost like an emotional black mail, asking to be my friend. And I donʼt like to over expose myself. You put yourself in a vulnerable position. Iʼve seen a lot of people to share their lives on social media and get really hurt by it. So the song questions the nature of friendship with these new “cyber friends.” The big question is – Is it really bringing people closer together or is it isolating people? Considering the fact that people spend more time at home in front of the computer then interacting face to face.

That’s so true. And even when we are out socially we still check our screens all the time!

S: Yeah! I even find myself reaching for my phone during social events. It has led to this new compulsion and there are treatments for internet addicts. It’s a technological lifestyle change that is happening so fast I think its hard for us to say what effect its having to society and what the long terms affects may be. It’s a really interesting formula and that’s what Too many friends touches upon.

Stefan Olsdal: MTV Asia

“Too Many Friends” is about feeling disconnected and not finding the satisfaction, the fulfillment that you need from genuine human contact, through a plethora of virtual friendships.

PureVolume

In the song “Too Many Friends,” you open with the line “My computer thinks I’m gay.” Understandably, that line’s become quite a talking point. When you wrote it, did you think that it would catch people’s attention as much as it has?
I was aware of the fact that it would probably polarize opinions quite a bit. I’ve never shyed away from doing that in the past. At the time, I thought, “Do I have the courage to do this?,” because it is so brazen that people are either gonna love it, get it or hate it. Do I still have the courage to do that, almost 20 years down the line? At the end of the day, I feel that to a great degree, fortune favors the brave, and I mustered up the courage to just go for it.

Do you have any regret going ahead with that line?
I wouldn’t have done it if it hadn’t happened to me. Up until that day itself, my computer had advertised to me specifically as a heterosexual male. I don’t know what I did (I have my suspicions, but I won’t go into that), but it started advertising towards me specifically as a homosexual male.

I’m quite fascinated by technology. I found that extremely significant, and I did think to myself, “Wow, my computer thinks I’m gay today!” I thought, “Whoa, OK, that’s quite a brave way to start a song,” and it coincided with some friends of mine talking about how they were stopping taking friend requests on their social networks because they had too many friends.

I had never thought of that before, because I don’t social network, so I thought [about] what an interesting concept that is. Can you have too many friends? How many friends do I have, and what does friendship mean today? How is a burgeoning obsession with [technology] affecting friendship today, and our social skills and our sense of community? I sat down and tried to put that all into “Too Many Friends.” I tried to make it about a person, and their sense of disconnection and loneliness.

Thousands of songs, since the invention of the fixed landline telephone, have mentioned sitting by the phone, waiting for you to call. The song’s about loneliness, it’s not about the technology itself. It’s a modern version of, “I’m sitting by the phone, waiting for you to call.”

Scene Of The Crime

Send me a sign, let me know
Give me a time, a place I should go
Reach inside, watch me grow
See me rise

Scene of the crime, star of the show
If you were mine, then we would know
The peace of mind and seeds that we sow
Are intertwined

We almost made it
But making it is overrated

Scene of the crime, friend or foe
I've got a body to hide, you've got a body on show
And with our bodies entwined, we will know
Paradise

Scene of the crime, go with the flow
Take it fast, take it slow
Stay blind so I don't know
What's right

Our breath evaporates before our eyes
The ground beneath that shakes
Under our weight

We almost made it
Making it is overrated (x5)

Scene of the crime
The scene of the crime (x4)

Scena del crimine

Dammi un segno, fammi sapere
Dammi un’ora, un posto dove andare
Arrivami dentro, osservami crescere
Guardami sollevarmi

Placebo Quotes about Scene Of The Crime

For example, [new song] ‘Scene Of The Crime’ started with an oboe sample I found on the Internet – I just found it completely wild and started writing the song around it.

Brian Molko, The fly

So the album kind of deals with the transgressive love in the second track [“Scene of the Crime”]

Love on an atom,
Love on a cloud,
To see the birth of all that isn't now
Can you imagine a love that is so proud
It never has to question why or how?
Total abandon the love in my dreams
When I wake up I'm soaking in my sheets

For all of our youth
We have craved them
Their beauty and their truth

Forti come l’Amore

Respira
Respira
Credi

Per tutta la nostra giovinezza

Puoi immaginare un amore così orgoglioso?
Non deve mai mettere in discussione perché o come

Per tutta la nostra giovinezza
Li abbiamo bramati
La loro verità e la loro bellezza
Quindi gli diamo un nome
E in qualche modo ci aiutano a rimetterci in sesto
Li abbiamo bramati
Per tutta la nostra giovinezza

Placebo Quotes about LOUD LIKE LOVE

“Equally, the title track ‘Loud Like Love’, was written at the same time as ‘Bosco’, and they became sort of the bookends for the album. ‘Loud Like love’ talks about the origins of love. I think that’s a very interesting concept because it’s an emotion we can’t touch but it’s so real and different for everyone.”

Stefan Olsdal, Hanger

Let's talk about "Loud Like Love", the opening song is immediately listed as one of the new classics of the band.
Steve Forrest : It came to us alone, very easily, as if it has written itself. We were in Spain, deep in the night, all naked, jamming and trying to find a good guitar line ... We had glimpses of "Loud Like Love." Carried by the excitement, we ended the song the day after.
Brian Molko : There was a real cohesion between us, now very rare alchemy where each member of the band has the same vision and goes in the same direction without talking. It is truly the song that has chosen us, and not the opposite. It has influenced the album and has shown us the direction in which we had to go.

RockMag, July 2013

MF: Is there any stand-out track from the album that you particularly enjoyed writing?

Steve Forrest: I think that Loud Like Love, the title track itself. Funny enough, it was one of the first songs we wrote for the album. That one kind of wrote itself and we did it in one night. The way it is now, it’s pretty much exactly how we wrote it except it’s a little bit shorter. It was really exciting when we sat down and started adding all the synths and all the sounds and guitars and other stuff, to see it grow.

Steve Forrest, Music Feeds

"Loud Like Love" in its recorded version is a very optimistic and upbeat, enthusiastic song about unity and togetherness. [...] When we came up with "Loud Like Love," it was borne out of a moment of complete boredom. We were in our writing studio in Spain, and we just didn't know what the hell to do. We just persevered until that came out. It was a complete release, and it seemed at the time to represent us coming together in our own. "Loud Like Love" is really quite ambiguous. I'm still working out exactly what it means to me. I'm quite happy about that because it means that each individual listener can live out their personal story through it.

Stanno ancora registrando :/
